Salomón Jara revealed that in the next edition of Oaxaca’s greatest celebration, a delegation from Los Angeles will be present.

A group representing the Oaxacan migrant community in the United States will take part in the 2025 Guelaguetza, Governor Salomón Jara Cruz announced during his morning press conference this Tuesday, March 18, from the Government Palace.

“Our migrant brothers and sisters will bring a presentation; they call themselves ‘the ninth region of the state,’ or even ‘the 571st municipality.’ We’ve invited them to be present at the Guelaguetza—they’ll coordinate and present a dance performance, as well as bring their own philharmonic band”.

Over the weekend, Jara Cruz held an unprecedented meeting with the Oaxacan community in Los Angeles, California, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to addressing current challenges. He was accompanied by Carlos González Gutiérrez, Mexico’s Consul General in that city.

Although further details about how and under what conditions Oaxacan migrants will participate in the 2025 Guelaguetza have yet to be disclosed, Jara Cruz emphasized that his government is “very pleased, because we cannot overlook or forget our brothers and sisters who live in the United States”.

When is the 2025 Guelaguetza in Oaxaca?

Earlier this year, the Oaxaca State Tourism Secretariat announced that the 2025 edition of the Guelaguetza—the most important celebration for Oaxacans—will take place during the traditional Mondays on the Hill (Lunes del Cerro) and its Octava, on July 21 and July 28.

In the following days, Governor Jara presented the official image for the 2025 Guelaguetza, titled “Lazos de fraternidad” (Bonds of Brotherhood), created by visual artist Osnar López Gallegos.
