The Ve’e Tata – Health in Your Municipality program has conducted 10,184 mammogram tests since August, reported Vilma Martínez Cortés, head of the Secretariat of Welfare, Tequio, and Inclusion (SEBIENTI).
“Early detection saves lives, which is why our priority is to bring mammograms directly to communities, free of charge and without intermediaries, so that no woman misses the opportunity to take care of her health”, Martínez Cortés said.
Martínez Cortés emphasized that prevention and follow-up are essential to reduce breast cancer mortality, calling on women over 40 years old, as well as those with medical indications, to take advantage of these free services provided by the state government.
As part of the prevention efforts carried out from October 6 to 10, 1,091 mammograms were performed in mobile units installed in the municipalities of San Pedro Pochutla; San Agustín Etla; Putla Villa de Guerrero; San Lorenzo Cacaotepec; Santa María el Tule; Santiago Yolomecatl; and San Pedro and San Pablo Ayutla.
According to the Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System (BI-RADS), of the total exams, 856 were classified as category 0, 59 cases as category 4, and 20 cases as category 5. These cases have been referred for clinical follow-up and specialized diagnosis according to established protocols.
