**Oaxaca** reinforced its role in the national review process of **the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement** by presenting 49 proposals through the Regional Consultation Forum on the USMCA, organized by the **Ministry of Economic Development** (Sedeco).

Held in coordination with **Mexico’s Ministry of Economy**, the forum gathered representatives from the productive, academic, social, and governmental sectors to collect ideas that will position both **Oaxaca and Mexico** in North America’s most significant trade agreement, whose review is scheduled for 2026.

## Sedeco’s 49 proposals are grouped into three key areas

1. Strengthening Mexico’s position with its North American partners.
2. Consolidating domestic capacities for economic growth.
3. Enhancing Oaxaca’s competitiveness within the USMCA framework.

During the event at the Oaxaca Cultural and Convention Center (CCCO), **Raúl Ruiz Robles**, Secretary of Economic Development, highlighted the importance of Oaxaca’s participation in this process, noting the state’s strong productive and commercial potential.

> “Our goal is for Oaxaca’s voice to be heard clearly in the upcoming review of the agreement, reflecting the opportunities and challenges faced by our regions, and reaffirming that the South also drives Mexico’s development”.

Also present was Andrea Genoveva Solano Rendón, head of the Unit for **Regulation, Competitiveness and Competition** of the federal Ministry of Economy.

The secretary emphasized the state’s economic initiatives, including **Orgullo Oaxaca**, Oaxaca Global, and the Hecho en Oaxaca certification, which promote the national and international visibility of local products.

Among the most notable proposals is the harmonization of phytosanitary certifications among the three countries to reduce export costs and processing times. Additional **strategies seek to strengthen Oaxaca’s export capacity**, particularly in high value-added sectors such as mezcal, specialty coffee, honey, handicrafts, and the local agroindustry.
